Transfer: Chelsea put on hold negotiation with Real Madrid over Thibaut Courtois

Chelsea have put on hold negotiations with Real Madrid over their first-choice goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois in order to concentrate on getting his replacement first.

Sky Sports reports that the Blues have prioritised finding a replacement for Courtois and if they do not, they would risk losing the Belgium international on a free transfer next summer.

Courtois, who won the Golden Gloves for his performances at this summer’s 2018 World Cup, has made no secret of his desire to return to Madrid at some point, having spent three years in the city with Atletico Madrid earlier in his career.

The 26-year-old has two children living in Madrid following his spell with Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014, while he has constantly been linked with a move to the Los Blancos.

When asked by reporters about joining Real Madrid after Belgium’s 3-2 victory over Japan in the 2018 World Cup round of 16 encounters, Courtois replied: “I’m not going to talk about that now.

“The only thing I’ve always said is that after the World Cup, I look at everything.

“The only thing is that my children are the most important and I’ll make the decision that best suits me for everything.”
