Transfer: Andy Brassell names player that may stop Rodriguez from joining Arsenal

European football expert, Andy Brassell has said that Arsenal are unlikely to sanction a move for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich star, James Rodriguez, while Mesut Ozil is at the club.

The Gunners have been linked with Rodriguez amid the player’s difficulties on loan at Bayern.

The Colombia international has struggled at the Allianz Arena this season, with the 27-year-old currently in his second season at the club following a loan move from Real Madrid in 2017.

Arsenal have been reported by Spanish media as being on the verge of securing a deal.

However, Brassell has now poured scorn on those reports, insisting that Ozil complicates any move for the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner.

The European expert was speaking to talkSPORT when host Danny Kelly asked, “Let’s talk about James Rodriguez, [listener] Rylan says Arsenal have already had a £63m bid accepted for James Rodriguez?”

Brassell then replied, saying, “Well, of course, that would be with Real Madrid, not Bayern because Bayern haven’t completed on him yet.

“I mean it’s frustrating for him because he was such a key part of everything that they did really well last season.

“It’s been rather less the case this season, at least partly due to injury.

“I think Arsenal seems very, very unlikely to me.

“Why would they sign a playmaker on enormous wages when they’ve got a playmaker on enormous wages [Ozil] that they can’t fit in the team at the moment?”
