At least, 16 persons yesterday escaped death in a crash along Gboko/Katsina-Ala Road, Benue State, involving a Toyota Picnic SUV and one Toyota Corolla car.
The victims, who sustained varying degrees of injury, were rescued by a patrol team led by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
The operatives were on a routine “Confidence-Building Patrol” along the route in the early hours of the day when they ran into the scene where all the passengers in the affected vehicles were seriously injured.
A statement on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Moses Yamu, stated that the victims were rushed to St. Christopher Catholic Clinic, Wunnune Tarka, while the CP paid for their medical bills.
The statement said, “CP Fatai Owoseni was touched by the varying degrees of injury sustained by the victims and ordered his convoy of more than 15 vehicles conveying a number of policemen, who accompanied him on the routine patrol, to halt and rescue the victims to the hospital.
“He, therefore, urged drivers and other road users to be conscious of the highway codes to avoid unnecessary road crashes/accidents.”
