An Onitsha businessman, Mr Edwin Elemuo driving a Toyota Sienna on Saturday afternoon killed his neighbour’s one-year-old son, while making out of the compound he shares with the deceased’s parents.
The incident, which happened at 1pm, at 10 Ezeiweka Road, Awada, Onitsha, left everyone in shock as the little boy was said to have died instantly.
The lad, whose name was given as Muna Ozor, was said to be playing around the compound, oblivious of the coming danger when Mr Elemuo got into the vehicle and made to drive out, hitting the boy in the process.
Police patrol team attached to Awada division rushed to the scene and drove the victim to a hospital in Onitsha. They were however disappointed when the boy was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
DAILY POST learnt that the suspect has been arrested by the police, while the matter has been placed under investigation.
The spokesperson of Anambra State police command, SP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident, disclosing that the matter has been placed under investigation.
Meanwhile, the command strongly urged parents and vehicle users to always be cautious and closely inspect the surroundings where they parked their vehicles before driving in order to avoid such occurrence.
