Traditional ruler carpets Okorocha, says Imo economy comatose

The re-election bid of the Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha suffered a major setback yesterday, as the chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, passed a vote of no confidence on him, accusing him of building a palatial estate for himself, while the economy of the state lies prostrate and in shambles.

According to Eze Ilomuanya, the governor has been running the affairs of Imo State government from his estate, instead of Government House.

He said: “The pensioners are paid with dud cheques. Our local governments have been paralyzed and their allocations diverted.

“The judiciary, civil service and Imo economy is comatose, while people are dying daily of hunger. In fact, I weep for Imo State. We are finished.”

According to Eze Ilomuanya, who is also the Chairman of South East Council of Traditional Rulers, he had earlier counselled Governor Okorocha against the misuse of power since it could back fire.

He, however, said he had forgiven the governor for the un justifiable war he waged against him as God will always vindicate the just.

Speaking on the forthcoming general elections and the preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the traditional ruler commended the shift in the time table, adding that it will afford the electoral umpire enough room to consolidate on its preparedness for the election.

He said: “If the elections had not been postponed, there would have been crisis across Nigeria due to non-collection of PVCs, improper training of personnel for the election, insecurity and absence of free and fair electoral process”.
