The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old traditional ruler for allegedly abducting and raping an 8-year-old girl.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Abdu Jinjiri, told newsmen the suspect, Mallam Abubakar Ya’u, is a monarch in Garki Local Government Area of the state.
His arrest came after the mother of the defiled primary school pupil lodged a complaint at the Garki Police Station against him.
She alleged that her daughter was abducted and raped on her way to school.
While being paraded at the police headquarters in Damaturu, the state capital on Monday alongside other suspects, the monarch, who is the village head of Kargo town, denied raping the girl.
He claimed her mother wanted to get to him because he had an issue with her over a longstanding debt.
The PPRO, however, stated that investigation into the incident was ongoing.
