A 42-year-old trader, Isah Ahmadu, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years in jail by a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, for raping a 7-year-old girl.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt.Ibrahim Gukwat, the incident was reported at the Nassarawa Gwom Police Station in Jos on Jan. 5, by the victim’s mother.
Gukwat said that the girl was sent to buy a loaf of bread, when the accused took her to an uncompleted building and forcefully had canal knowledge of her.
The prosecutor told the court that the girl returned home in pains and was immediately interrogated by her mother.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge.
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Penal Code.
Ahmadu said, “I am sorry for my indecent act and I promise not to do it again. I plead with the Court to have mercy on me,’’
The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, however, convicted and sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment.
