A 39-year-old trader identified as Anayo Ibe, was on Thursday arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Lagos for having sexual intercourse with an 11-year-old girl.
Ibe who resides at No. 11, Anuoluwapo Street in Shomolu area of Lagos State was arraigned on a one count charge of child rape.
According to police prosecutor, ASP Godwin Anyanwu, Ibe committed the offence on Nov.17 at about 5.30 p.m. in his residence.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused, who resides in the same building with the victim’s parents, lured her into his room under the pretence of sending her on an errand where he took advantage of her sexually.
Anyanwu noted that the offence was contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, Ibe pleaded not guilty to the charge when read to his hearing.
The chief magistrate, Mrs A.O. Soladoye, ordered that the case file be duplicated and be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.
The accused was granted bail by the Chief Magistrates, Mrs A.O. Soladoye in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Soladoye, consequently adjourned the case till May 18, for mention.
