A 33-year-old trader, Femi Oyekunle, was on Monday docked in an Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos for beating up a police officer.
Oyekunle, who resides in the Ajegunle area of Apapa, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful assault.
According to the Prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, Oyekunle committed the offence at Awodi-Ora Estate in Ajegunle area of the State on April 16.
The prosecutor told the court that the accused alongside others now at large connived and beat up the police officer, identified as Owoeye Dada while on duty.
Ojaokomo said “The complainant said he was trying to settle an argument between the accused and one Alhaja when Oyekunle with another still at large assaulted him.”
He said the offence was contrary to Sections 171 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Oyekunle, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Consequently, the accused was admitted bail by Senior Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya in the sum of N 20,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till May 13.
