Tottenham vs Chelsea: ‘Pochettino needs to win trophies’ – Sarri

Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri has said it’s time his counterpart at Tottenham Hotspur, Mauricio Pochettino won a trophy with the club, but added he hopes it’s not the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham and Chelsea meet today (Tuesday) night at Wembley in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Since joining Spurs in 2014, Pochettino has won several plaudits from pundits and critics for the job he has done with the club.

But one criticism of the Argentine is that he is yet to win a trophy with the north London side, despite some impressive performances over the years.

Asked at a pre-match press briefing if Pochettino needs to win a trophy, Sarri said: “I agree because he is a very good coach, one of the best at the moment, I agree he has to win a trophy, I hope not this.”

A lack of trophies is also something that is hanging over the head of Sarri as well both at Napoli and Chelsea despite the huge applause he was getting.

“I think it is the same [when asked if Sarri also needs to win a trophy]. Of course Pochettino is in Tottenham from four years ago and I am here from six months and I think that here in the first season it is really very difficult for everybody.

“For Pochettino, four years; for Klopp, four years; it was really very hard in the first season also for [Pep] Guardiola so here it is really very difficult to build up a very good team. You need time.”
