Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane has said that he would like to surpass the goalscoring records set by Barcelona star, Lionel Messi ahead of both teams clash in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Messi has scored over 40 goals in all competitions in each of the last nine seasons, while Kane has netted at least 28 times in the last four campaigns.
Kane, however, said he is ‘motivated’ to try to match Messi in the future, acknowledging that the Argentine captain and Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo have “set the standard” in world football.
Kane was quoted by Sportmole as saying at pre-match press conference: “Messi has set the standard. He and Ronaldo have gone above the normal standard set by people in years gone past.
“Fifty-sixty goals a season, as a striker I want to try to match that and do the same.
“He’s still scoring goals as well and it motivates me as well to score as many and if not more than him one day.”
