Tottenham Hotspur could play a big role in Gareth Bale’s future, as he continues to be linked with a move away from Real Madrid.

Spurs sold Bale to Madrid in a £85m deal in 2013 and chairman Daniel Levy secured an option on the 28-year-old’s next move.

Despite not being exactly a buy-back option, Spurs can match a bid from a Premier League rival that is accepted by the La Liga champions.

On Monday, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, admitted he was keen on signing Bale if he was available this summer. If United have a bid accepted, Spurs can match the offer within 72 hours, although the option will expire on June 2019.

Having won three Champions League titles with Madrid, Bale has achieved greatness in Spain. But it is believed that the need to play a starring role, may eventually push him to move back to London.
