The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been thrown into darkness following its inability to offset the N1.7 million debt owed Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC.
The AEDC has disconnected the party’s office from electricity.
It was also gathered that the onset of the current economic meltdown, party activities had almost come to halt due to poor funds, as the party had in recent times, relied on the sale of forms to contestants in the last Edo State governorship election and the forthcoming election in Ondo State.
Vanguard reports that the APC national secretariat may have generated over N100 million this year from the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for Edo and Ondo States governorship primaries.
The ugly development has forced some staff of the secretariat to contribute some money to power the electricity generator at the premises.
An AEDC receipt pasted on the gate of the secretariat showed that the party had only recently paid N500, 000 of the debt.
The AEDC Headquarters located at Wuse Zone 4 is a few metres away from APC secretariat. The AEDC and other distribution companies have continued to urge organizations and government agencies to offset their bills in order to ensure enhanced service delivery.
