Torreira ‘scared’ about moving to Arsenal

Ricardo, the father of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira, has admitted that his son is set to complete a “scary” transfer to Arsenal, after the 2018 World Cup.

The Gunners have already struck a deal with Sampdoria for the player and are waiting for the tournament to end, so he can undergo his medicals and wrap up the deal.

The 22-year-old will become Unai Emery’s fourth signing of the transfer window, after Sokratis (Borussia Dortmund), Bernd Leno (Bayer Leverkusen) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (released by Juventus) arrived earlier.

There are doubts over Torreira’s ability to adapt to the physical style in Enfland, but his father insists he has a programme ready to help him settle in England.

“There will be people that will accompany him,” he told Teledoce.

“He won’t be alone. It’s a big change [going to England] and we don’t want to think about it yet because we’re scared.

“The truth is it’s tough to manage the language, adapt to the [London] society and customs and at the same time not lose ours.

“But there’s a whole programme getting readied for Lucas.”
