Togo to play exhibition match in honour of Keshi

Players from the 2006 Togolese national team, will play the 2016 set in a match to honour former Nigeria coach, Stephen Keshi.

Keshi died last week in Benin City from a suspected cardiac arrest.

The Big Boss led Togo to qualify for their first ever World Cup in Germany in 2006.

Emmanuel Adebayor, who was part of that squad, will lead his team-mates to face the current Hawks on Sunday at the Stade Municipal in Lome.

“The game is between players of the team that Stephen Keshi qualified for the 2006 World Cup like Emmanuel Adebayor and the present generation of the national team,” Aime Ekpe, president of Association des Journalistes Sportifs du Togo (AJST), told Goal.

There will be no tickets sold for the game, as gates will be thrown open for fans.

Ekpe also revealed that there are talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to stage a commemorative international match in honour of Keshi.

“Negotiations are taking place and the match would be played either in Lome or in Lagos,” he added.
