TMG wants Buhari to declare state of emergency on employment in Nigeria

A civil rights organization, under the umbrella of Transition Monitoring Group, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently declare a state of emergency on the unemployment situation in the country.

This, the group noted will regain public confidence in his administration.

TMG, who was expressing concern over the nagging fuel crisis across the nation, warned that if the scenario and poor power supply continued unchecked, it might generate ripple effects.

The Chairman of TMG, Ibrahim Zikirullahi, stated this on Friday in Abuja, during the public presentation of its Quick Count Final Report for the 2015 presidential and National Assembly Elections.

Zikirullahi said it was unacceptable for Nigerians to have worked tirelessly to effect change in government in the 2015 elections with a view of getting good governance and be later abandoned after polls to groan in hardship.

His words, “The mass of unemployed youths who toiled day and night for the realization of the 2015 election victory of the current government must be rewarded with jobs.

“While TMG commends President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against corruption and terrorism, we urge him now to proceed earnestly to declare a state of emergency on the unemployment situation in the country.”

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, TMG maintained that it was imperative that the Federal Government kick-starts the process of genuine electoral reform in the country, as it regards the use of card reader machine to avoid hitches.

“The fact that Nigeria survived those tensed moments generated by the elections is a testament to the supreme determination of Nigerians to make democracy their preferred path to nation building.

“It is pertinent to stress that if the results of the valiant sacrifices made by the Nigerian people in 2015 are to endure, a comprehensive reform of the electoral process is urgently needed, particularly as it relates to the use of card reader,” the group said.
