Tito Vilanova off to New York next week for cancer treatment

Barcelona have confirmed that coach Tito Vilanova, will fly back to New York, to receive further cancer treatment next week.

The 44-year-old, was initially scheduled to undergo the treatement in the summer, but will now leave on Monday and return on Friday, after the Catalans sealed their fourth La Liga title in five years.

“Tito Vilanova has confirmed at a press conference that he will have further treatment for cancer next week in New York. The pioneering treatment has been developed at a specialised centre and is proving particularly effective,” a statement on the club’s official website said.

“It was originally planned for this summer but as Barca has now clinched the league title it has been advanced to next week. Tito Vilanova will be away from Barcelona from Monday to Friday.”

Barca will host Real Valladolid on Sunday, before completing their season against Espanyol and Malaga.
