The Federal Government has stated that the sack of Rex Tillerson as American Secretary of State will not affect the relationship between Nigeria and the US.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing State House reporters after the cabinet meeting.
President Donald Trump on Tuesday sacked Tillerson over his statement on Russian President Vladimir Putin
He said all that Tillerson said about Nigeria/US relations when he visited Nigeria on Monday still stands and reflects the position of America and President Donald Trump.
The minister stated: “Rex Tillerson sack won’t affect us because government is a continuum as we all know.
“When he came, it was the United States that was speaking and clearly, we expect that with every expectation that everything he has said as regards US/Nigeria relations reflects the position of the United States, reflects the position of the president of the United States, so we don’t see any change happening at all.”
