Three suspects were tried on Friday by Issele-Uku Magistrate’s Court in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State for allegedly killing an okada rider.
The deceased identified as one Cyprian Kumaorun, was said to have been shot and killed on May 24, 2017 by suspected hoodlums loyal to a traditional ruler.
The three suspects and others at large were arraigned before the magistrate’s court on two counts.
The charges read:“That you, Ochei Nnamdi, Wilfred Oyono, Ofuonye Ofun and others now at large on or about the 24th May, 2017 at Idumuje-Ugboko community in the Issele-Uku Magisterial District, did conspire amongst themselves to commit felony to wit, murder and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 324 of the criminal code cap C21 vol. 1 law of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.
“That you, Ochei Nnamdi, Wilfred Oyono, Ofuonye Ofun and others now at large on or about the 24th May, 2017 at Idumuje-Ugboko community in the Issele-Uku Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Cyprian Kumaonu by shooting him with a gun and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 316(1) punishable under section 319 of the criminal code cap C21 vol. 1 law of Delta State of Nigeria 2006,” the charge against the suspects read.
The Chief Magistrate, Vincent Okonta, in judgement adjourned the case till August 21,2017 over non-representation of the accused person by any counsel.
Magistrate Okonta, ordered that the accused persons be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Agbor, pending the report from the Department of Public Prosecution.
