The Police, on Monday arraigned three brothers in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun for alleged N1.6million fraud. Olalekan Goke, 22, Olalekan Akinlolu, 45 and Olalekan Isaac, 25, were charged with three counts of conspiracy, fraud and obtaining under false pretence.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Ojiezele, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb. 12 at about 2:00 pm at Hotel Diganga, Ile-Ife.
He alleged that the defendants fraudulently converted the sum of N1.6 million belonging to one Aposo Abiola to their own use without his consent.
According to him, the defendants obtained the sum in the pretence of selling four acres of land at the fe/Ibadan Toll Gate, a transaction they failed to carry out.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 383, 390(9), 418, 419, 421 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge against them.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ola Ibrahim, applied for the bail of the defendants in the most liberal terms, pledging that his clients would provide reliable sureties.
Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi admitted the defendants to N500,000 bail with one surety each, in like sum.
Owolawi ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, as well as provide three recent passport photographs each.
He added that the sureties must produce three years tax clearance certificate.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Aug. 28 for hearing. (NAN)
