Three arraigned in court for allegedly stealing 35 bags of rice

Three traders were on Thursday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing 35 bags of rice worth N280, 000.

The accused persons identified as Ifeanyi Harrison, 45; Ikechukwu Okafor, 43, and Emeka Elias-Okolie, 43, all residents of No. 16, Oyekan Street, Fadeyi area of the State were arraigned on a two count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

While giving his testimony in court, the prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, said the accused, on November 8, 2011, broke into the shop of one Mrs Bukki Hoseni at Ajegunle Bus-Stop, along Ketu-Ikorodu Road, Lagos State.

Nnamonu affirmed, “The accused, on Nov. 8, 2011, around midnight, burgled a rice shop belonging to Mrs Hoseni and carted away 35 bags of rice valued at N8,000 each, all amounting to N280,000.“

The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened Sections 305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused persons all pleaded not guilty.

Consequently, Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and two sureties in like sum, adding that they must be gainfully employed and show proof of three year tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Komolafe however adjourned the case to May 21, for trial.
