Those who think I’m on warpath with Jonathan can now swallow their pills — Governor Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu Tuesday, declared that there was no rift between him and president Goodluck Jonathan.

The governor also dismissed the ongoing speculation in the media that he was dumping his party, PDP for APC.

He stated this during the flagged off ceremony of the N162.9billion Hydro- power Project by President Goodluck Jonathan in Zungeru.

Aliyu declared after conferring three chieftaincy titles, of Mayakin Kontagora, Jagaban Minna, and Dan Hasken Kalgara on Jonathan that, “those who are hoping that there is wedge between Niger state government and the president can now swallow their pills”

The governor was reacting to a purported plan by the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,to go after the governors who were pro-Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi in the last Nigerian Governors’ Forum,NGF,election.

He said, “Mr President, you are the only Nigerian with good luck and experience having been a Deputy Governor, a Governor, a Vice-President with a PHD. So, if you hear criticisms, it is not because we don’t love you, it is only because we want more; if we don’t make noise, people will not hear us”.

Jonathan, who was accompanied to the occasion by the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, avoided political statement but stated that the Zungeru project being flagged off was the biggest hydro electric power project embarked upon by his administration.

He said that his government was totally committed to reviving the power sector which was why he beat all the challenges through a roadmap drawn in august 2010 for the power sector.

He said that though all the targets in the roadmap have not been fully attained, government has exceeded all expectations affirming that “this is a project that will really turn the economy around, not just in Niger State, but indeed the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Danladi Ndayebo, dismissed reports that Governor Aliyu was leaving PDP as the handiwork of those seeking to disintegrate the PDP.

“The story of planned defection of Governor Aliyu is a figment of the imagination of persons who are either threatened by the successes the party has made in the last 14 years or are afraid of squaring up with the party in 2015”.
