Niger State Governor,
Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu
, has said that no one in the country can dictate to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, DailyPost can report.
He state this on Tuesday when the forum of Peoples Democratic Party secretaries from the northern states paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Minna.
According to him, “The Nigeria Governors’ forum is an association and not a union that is set up for peer review mechanism and not a political body”.
He said that those wasting their energy to destabilize the forum should engage in more productive ventures as no individual or group can clip the wings of the forum.
“Some people rode on the back of the forum. Let people not waste their time to clip the wings because there will be 2015. How can you use Governors for national convention and turn around to be planning against them?” he asked.
Speaking further, Aliyu said, “Nobody will kill the Governors’ Forum; all other forum will be subservient to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum. All the other existing groups like the Northern Governors’ Forum, the South-east Governors’ Forum or Party Governors’ Forum are all subservient to the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.”
“NGF is an association registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission to serve as platform for the exchange of ideas between members of the group,” he said.
“The Nigeria Governors’ Forum is not a forum for deciding who becomes what, like President or Vice President. I know how I became a Governor.”
He said that despite the crisis facing the forum presently, the organisation will emerge “better and stronger.”
On the merger of some opposition political parties in the country, Governor Aliyu said that the PDP should not be afraid of the merger, but work for its success so that it will make the party stronger and more serious.
“We must not be frightened with the merger. It is a way to strengthen our party. PDP should encourage it (APC),” he added.
On the Crisis in Baga town in Borno State, Governor Aliyu welcomed the decision to investigate the matter by both the Federal and Borno State Governments.
He however called on the investigative panels to be fair, honest and sincere in the task.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Northern States PDP Secretaries Forum said the organisation was formed to serve as a platform for exchange of ideas and to move the party forward in the area.
