Those oppressing Okere-Urhobo are the same people attacking me — Gov. Okowa’s Aide

The Senior Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Political Matters, Hon Mathew Poko Opuoru, has debunked reports linking him to youths activities in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, Warri South Council Area of the state.

In a chat with DAILY POST, Opuoru stated that he became a target of attack by those who are uncomfortable as a result of his unyielding stance against injustice and use of police for harassment, just as he denied involvement in any collection of tax or levies in the kingdom.

The politician, who expressed dissatisfaction over recent negative media reports allegedly sponsored by some faceless individuals also narrated how the police had been used by some members of the community to cause disquiet in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, a situation, he said had led to the unjust victimization and humiliation of youth leadership in the kingdom.

”I’m in no means encouraging any illegality, but at the same time, I will not allow anyone to file false charges against the youths of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and maliciously incarcerate them, without proper investigation.

”I’m also not involved in any development fee collection or anything like that, I don’t even have any revenue income in Warri South and that is not my interest. I’m not involved in youth matters, having to do with collecting development fee or whatsoever, I’m above such kind of activity and I don’t condone any illegal activity, but fairness is fairness, a lot of innocent people are in jail because of oppression and that I cannot condone.

”I feel that those who are paid to uphold the law should not be conniving with some certain evil people to bring false charges against innocent people. If it’s a question of two fighting, then the charges should read two fighting. Not two fighting, then you put kidnapping against that person, that is breaking the law.

”It has happened before wherein my youths chairman and two others were incarcerated for 37 days and I said such thing cannot happen again, not in my area where I come from, and as a Senior Special Assistant to the governor of Delta state,” Opuoru said.
