Those calling TraderMoni vote buying are fools – Segun Osoba

Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State, has declared that those calling the TraderMoni initiative of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration vote buying are fools, The Cable reports.

The TraderMoni, launched under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), provides petty traders with N10,000 each to boost their businesses.

However, some persons, especially members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have stated that the government was using it as an avenue to woo voters ahead of the general election.

But speaking at the presentation of “Nigeria on Firmer Ground Towards Lasting Peace and Progress”, a book put together by the presidential media team, Osoba said calling a “revolving loan” given to the market women to aid their petty trading, vote buying was “nothing but foolery.”

Meanwhile, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to claims that TraderMoni was a form of voter inducement.

Osinbajo had refuted the claims saying, there was no sincerity in the allegation.

He said, “The first person to say TraderMoni is vote buying is Senate President Bukola Saraki but if we want to be sincere, we must understand it is the Senate and House of Representatives that agreed to TraderMoni and passed it in the budget.
