A Third Republic Senator and Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland, Chief Ayantayo Ayandele is dead.
Chief Ayandele, who died on Friday according to family sources, had served as Chairman of the then Ogbomoso Local government area in the old Oyo state. He was said to be one of the rallying points for indigenes of Ogbomoso during his lifetime.
A family source told DAILY POST that “he has been ill shortly after his wife’s death some years ago. Baba joined his ancestors on Friday; he was a former chairman of then Ogbomoso local government in the old Oyo state. He also served as a commissioner for Education.
“His tenure as Chairman of Ogbomoso local government witnessed tremendous development.”
Former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, who visited the family’s residence in Ibadan on Monday, described his death as a “personal loss” to him.
Alao-Akala in a condolence letter he personally signed and handed over to the family members during his visit, said the elder statesman was “an epitome of selfless service, humanness, and philanthropy, who devoted the greater part of his life to humanity.”
He said Chief Ayandele, while serving as a Chairman in the then Ogbomosoland “initiated and executed many developmental projects, especially, extensive road network which endeared to the hearts of the people”, adding that the late “Chief laid a solid foundation for subsequent administrations to build upon.”
He also praised the efforts of Chief Ayandele as a pillar of support and a rallying point, who provided leadership roles to foster unity, peace, cohesion, progress and development, such that the elder statesman was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland.
Otunba Akala then prayed for the repose of his soul, adding that “we are consoled by the fact that he left behind enviable legacies, and greatest honor and respect we can give to him is to sustain and improve on those legacies.”
Akala during the visit was accompanied by some of his aides, including ex-commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in the state, Barrister Abdulsalam Abdulllahi, Alhaji Marafa, Mrs. Kemi Olorunsogo and Mrs. Tairat Adeyemi, among others.
