A group under the aegis of Concerned Tarok Youths of Langtang South, Langtang North and Wase LGAs of Plateau State on Tuesday refuted allegations that there is an ethnic militia of Tarok extraction from the aforementioned operating in Taraba state.
The group in a press statement signed by Hon. Ishaya Nankap, Hon. Nanpon Musa, Comrade Lohbut Jangle and Hon. Nanbut Faman, made available to journalists in Jos.
The statement debunked allegations leveled against the Tarok people recently by a group, alleging that ethnic militia made of Tarok people from Plateau States have annexed 13 villages in Taraba State and have gone ahead to install Tarok chiefs to head some of the annexed villages.
According to the Youths, “The claims by this group amounts to a kettle calling the pot black.
“The claims by the group is misleading and wicked machination aimed at portraying both the Tarok and Jukun tribes as a violent set of people.
“The truth is there is no ethnic militia of Tarok extraction from Langtang South or anywhere operating in any part of Taraba State.
“The alleged collaboration by any group is not also true, and the alleged annexation is also a false alarm and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the two ethnic groups under consideration. Even the alleged installation of local chiefs from Langtang South is equally false”, the statement stressed.
“We the Tarok youths are peace loving people and we would continue to promote peace among citizens of the state.
However, some part of Plateau South which was hitherto crisis ridden, is now enjoying relative peace.
