Second Republic politician, who was once the Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has affirmed that some current members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet are incompetent.

According to him, most of the appointees do not posses what it takes to serve as minister, hence the reason for the current confusion and economic mess.

The elder statesman also believes that the much-publicized anti-corruption crusade championed by the current government was overrated, adding that the presidency was only using the anti-graft agency as propaganda tool to punish preserved political enemies.

Speaking with Sun, Yakasai accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of conducting media trials of critics of the present administration.

He further attributed the level of underdevelopment in the country to the years of military rule.

The northern politician also wondered why the current government has not been able to implement the recommendations made during the 2014 national conference.

He said, “It is bad that a national conference took place, and the resources of Nigerians which were expended to host the conference and produce the report have gone to waste. It will amount to extravagance for us to just ignore that report because efforts, both human and material, were being put in to produce that report.”

On Buhari’s cabinet structure, he said, “He (Buhari) also took a long time before appointing ministers, and when people started complaining that there was a delay in nominating ministers, the reply given was that the president was carefully looking for the best material. If we had to end up with the type of ministers in his cabinet, why did it take him so long? There are far better materials than most of the members of his cabinet.”
