Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has thrown his support behind embattled Chelsea doctor, Eva Carneiro, insisting that “the rules are the rules”.
His Chelsea counterpart, Jose Mourinho, is set to demote Carneiro and head physio Jon Fearn, for running onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard last week against Swansea.
Mourinho labelled his medical staff as “impulsive and naive” and said they “did not understand the game”.
He has been widely condemned by medical experts and even FIFA. Now, Wenger has added his voice to the matter and says “it is a problem inside the club”.
“It’s a problem inside a club. It’s difficult enough and if you’re not united it’s more difficult,” Wenger said.
“Trust and unity inside a club makes a strength. That story at Chelsea, I have not followed that. I do not have great interest in what’s going on.
“Secondly the rules are clear, when the ref give indication for the medics to come on they can come on. After that, in this situation, I don’t know.
“But the rules are quite clear. The referee makes the decision.”
