“The perpetrators of killings in Rivers must face ICC” – Rights activist

A Human Rights activist in Port Harcourt, Justine Ijeomah has said all the politically motivated killings and atrocities in Rivers State are being documented for the prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly acts.

Justine Ijeomah, who is the Executive Director of Human Rights Social Development Foundation, wondered why Rivers state had always been a flashpoint of political ‘horror’ since the democratic dispensation in 1999.

He said the struggle for power at the state and Federal levels had turned many women into widows and many parents, childless.

While accusing politicians in Rivers state for perpetrating the evil, the rights activist also fingered the police and the military for violating their code of responsibilities to protect the lives of every citizen.

She also noted that it was bad for youths to allow themselves to be used as satanic tools to cause unrest in Rivers state, adding that cultism was being used as the leeway to commit the heinous crime of killing people in cold blood.

She said all the documented crimes, the evidences and the suspects would be channelled to the International Criminal Court, ICC, for proper and effective prosecution.

Ijeomah said, “We are documenting the acts of violence in Rivers state because the level of political killings and all the killing that are going on in Rivers state is in an alarming state.

“Beyond the politicians also, any person that played a role in aiding this crime will be brought to book to face the crime against humanity because this is a deliberate crime against the general public.

“Not only that, we are strongly calling for the probe of the military and other security agencies for the role they played during this period.

“A time is coming and it is not far from now that all the perpetrators of these crimes will have to appear before the ICC. I wonder why they cannot learn from Gbagbo and his Wife.”
