Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State has declared that anyone or group engaged in violence would be dealt with by his administration.
Speaking at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, during a courtesy call by the executive members of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yero decried the spate of insecurity, saying the people of the state now live in fear, suspicion and mutual distrust.
According to him, emphasis should be on what would unite Nigerians and not otherwise.
The Governor said the state government embarked on the peace-building process in Southern Kaduna to engender mutual trust and harmonious co-existence among the people, asserting that his meeting with religious and community leaders, youth and other stakeholders would move to Kaduna North Senatorial zone, next week and Kaduna Central Senatorial zone, next month.
“We want to solicit for the assistance of the media in Kaduna State. Nigerians depend on the media for information and the stories and programmes you do, we want your cooperation in reporting what you have seen and not what you were told which may not be true. This is to ensure peace and unity among the people of the state.
“From the peace-building in Southern Kaduna, it was brought up that there is need for punishment and reward system, that if anybody is found guilty of any offence, the law should be allowed to take its course. People should not whip up religion, ethnic or whatever sentiments. No matter how highly placed people are, once they commit an offence, the law should take its full course.”
