One Ngbede Omale who secretly murdered his friend, Agabaidu Omale and buried him in a shallow grave has blamed the devil for his action as he had no intention of killing his friend.
The suspect is currently cooling his heels in the custody of the Benue State Police Headquarters.
Ngbede who confessed to the crime said he committed the act after a heated argument led to a fight between him and the deceased while they were on the farm.
He said, “I just gave him a little push and he fell down and before I knew it, he was dead. I tried to resuscitate him but to no avail. I didn’t know what to do and there was nobody around. So, I quickly dug a shallow grave and buried him there.”
“I did not intend to kill him. I did not know that he would die. In fact, as soon as I buried him, I came home and confided in one of my cousins after which I ran away from the village. I did not know that my sin would still find me out. I am sorry.”
Agabaidu who went missing for eight months was only discovered by hunters who found his skeleton in the shallow grave where he had been buried.
Confirming the incident, the Benue State Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi said the insistence of the deceased mother that her son was last seen with Ngbede led to a manhunt and his subsequent arrest.
The police boss said Ngbede who was found and apprehended at a village in Kwara State, added that upon completion of investigation, the suspect would be charged to court.
