Terrorism: FG reassures international community on observation of human right obligations

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring that all the nation’s counter terrorism efforts were within the framework of human right obligations and security architecture.

The President made this known at the occasion of the breaking of fast with members of the diplomatic corps in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the nation’s military operations will be governed by international rule and regulations for effective engagements.

He said already Nigeria had approved 21million dollars for the smooth take off the multinational joint task force against terrorism.

He, therefore, stressed the need for the cooperation and solidarity of the international community to help fight terrorism in Nigeria and beyond as the Boko Haram sect had since pledged allegiance to Islamic State (IS).

The president disclosed that his administration had put in place measures to curb corrupt practices in the country and boost the nation’s economy.

According to the president, government will embark on systematic diversification of the nation’s economy from sole dependent on oil and gas.

He expressed the readiness of Nigeria to re-establish and strengthen its bilateral relations with nations across the world for the benefit of humanity.

All the Diplomats who spoke at the event, thanked the President for inviting them for the breaking of fast.
