Tension in Lokoja as Kogi Speakership position generates controversy among lawmakers

There is palpable tension in Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital as who to replace Umar Ahmed Imam as Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly is now generating controversies among lawmakers.

Imam was billed to officially tender his resignation letter today at the House’s emergency sitting.

DAILY POST gathered that, the power that be anointed the current Majority Leader representing Kabba Bunnu, Prince Mathew Kolawole but this did not play down well with some lawmakers loyal to former Senator from Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi.

The former lawmaker was said to have endorsed the member representing Ijumu Constituency, Victor Omofaiye.

As at 12:55pm Thursday, the Assembly is yet to resume sitting as earlier announced by the Speaker.

Members of the House are currently engaging in a closed door meeting outside the Assembly complex to determine who will be the number three citizen of the state.

Recall that the House was Tuesday enmeshed in crisis following the disruption of the House’s sitting by suspected thugs who unleashed mayhem on a lawmaker in the State Assembly.
