Pandemonium struck at the Gyadi-gyadi area in Kano State on Wednesday as operatives of Kano Road Traffic Agency, KAROTA, clashed with some illegal motor park operators.
The clash emanated after KAROTA officials made to stop the park operators, who were members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, from carrying passengers at the park located under the strategic fly over along Zaria road.
But the park operators refused the eviction and gunshots were fired sporadically, making people to scamper for safety.
Although it was unclear who fired the shots, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Magaji Majiya, confirmed the clash.
He told DAILY POST many vehicles were damaged following the clash which started at about 11:00 a.m.
He said, “I can confirm to you that we are at the scene and normalcy has been restored in the area.
“We have commenced investigation into the matter to find out the cause of the incident and also ordered that the park be closed immediately until the issue is resolved between the state government and owners of the park.
“No casualty was recorded, but a number of vehicles belonging to both sides were damaged.”
