There is heightened tension in Delta State as suspected bandits, said to be herdsmen, allegedly attacked the Great Saints Orphanage in Issele-Uku in Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State.

The bandits also destroyed parts of the building and a vehicle parked within the premises, DAILY POST can report.

Meanwhile, none of the children or staff of the Orphanage was reported injured or killed by the bandits.

There were signs as to how the suspects burgled into the premises.

Indigenes and residents of the community are now living in fear with the belief that the bandits who they suspected to be Fulani herdsmen might re-attack them.

Proprietor of the Orphanage, who recently set up welfare office to assist the less privileged in the society, is said to be in the Hague when the incident occurred.

The President of Issele-Uku Development Union, Mr. Ugeh Ofordile, confirmed the report, saying that there are ongoing meetings to unravel the cause of the attack on the orphanage.

He said appropriate actions will be taken as soon as the union concludes its meetings.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke, in a telephone chat with DAILY POST, confirmed the report, stressing that the attacks were carried out by bandits and not by Fulani herdsmen as being speculated.

According to CP Adeleke, “It is bandits that attacked the orphanage home. I’m not sure it is the Fulani herdsmen. However, when I get more details, I will update you.”
