No fewer than two persons were allegedly killed in the early hours of Saturday in Asaba community, Delta state over land dispute.
It was gathered that the problem of land speculations in Asaba said to be a thing of the past, has resurfaced, particularly among youths from UMuezeafadia and umuaJi villages who allegedly attack one another in fierce gun battle.
It was further gathered that the victims were allegedly killed in the part of umuezeafadia village following claims, and counter claims of land Ownership.
The victims, Godfrey Nwadiefe and Dumebi Nnekadi were allegedly killed over the land dispute between the two villages (Umuezeafadia, Umuaji).
But the police spokesman in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said, ” A special Tactical Squad is handling the issues. The section is headed by a commissioner of police in charge of PMF ,force headquarters, Abuja and supervised by a Deputy Inspector General of police ,DIG,in charge of operations. We moved into the situation and arrested some of the youths, and handed them over to Special Tactical Squad for further investigation ”
DAILY POST gathered that trouble resurfaced few months ago when one Isioma was confronted by fellow youths over his alleged land deals, a situation he was said to have contacted the leader of IGP Special Tactical Squad, and allegedly mobilized the police to harass opposition youths.
Family sources hinted that for the squad to storm Asaba, and clip the wings of the perceived opponents of the said Isioma, huge sums of money was allegedly exchanged hands
According to DAILY POST informed sources, as soon as the policemen were allegedly settled, the STS officers including one Inspector Udofia were said to have stormed Zone 5 Benin city in Edo state, and took away a petition lodged against Isioma, leaving the Delta state police Command in the Dark, and the police officers allegedly executed their “deal” and returned back to Abuja .
But in a swift reaction, Isioma who spoke to DAILY POST said ” All allegations against me are not true, the youths on the other side were oppressing me in my land, and I have discovered they have the police here, then I approached higher authorities, now they are running.”
Further investigation revealed that after the petition was taken away by the policemen who came from Abuja, some of the youths from Umuaj village who are seen as rivals, were arrested, and subsequently detained at force headquarters Abuja, while others took to their heels and abandoned the village for safety.
Speaking to DAILY POST in Asaba, one of the officers of STS, DSp Danlandi Muhammad said, ” We are assigned to investigate the troubles in both villages, and our own is to do our job, and we never took sides. It is not true money exchanged hands, from anywhere. The Asaba youths are too engrossed in land dispute. “
