Tension as Naval officer shoots dead three youths in Warri

An unidentified naval personnel on guard at the premises of the Warri Petrochemical Company, WRPC in Ifiekporo, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Friday shot dead three youths.

An eyewitness said the youths had squabbles with a contractor given a job to repair a jetty in the yard.

The eyewitness also stated that the contractor reportedly came in with some Ekpan youths possibly to ward-off any confrontation.

“In the process, an argument ensued, leading to the unidentified naval personnel shooting dead the three youths at about 3pm.

“It took the intervention of men of the Nigerian Army who swooped into action to bring the situation under control as they whisked the naval personnel away for safety”, he stated.

Meanwhile, a source within the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Delta who craved anonymity stated that the unidentified naval personnel may have acted in self defense.

The Naval Source also noted that it was two youths that were shot dead and not three.

The source explained that youths from Ifiekporo community scaled the fence in an attempt to disarm the unidentified naval personnel during a protest.

One of the slained youths simply identified as Agbolu is the liaison officer of Ifiekporo community to A&E Petrol.

Until his death, he had two children.

Contacted at about 7am Saturday morning, the Delta State Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka said, “I am not aware of the matter. However, I will get back to you.”

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Zanna Mohammed asked our correspondent to hold on while he gets across to the Divisional Police Officer in that Area before he could give any confirmation.
