Teachers strike would be suspended on Monday – Delta NUT

The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Delta State chapter on Thursday announced that the ongoing teachers strike in the state would be called off between now and Monday.

Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, Chairman of chapter, disclosed this after what he described as a fruitful closed door meeting with the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

He said; “Between now and Monday, we will call off the strike, we had a very fruitful discussion with the governor.

“We are Deltans and the Governor, Senator Okowa is a good man, dealing with us the way fathers deal with their children.

“The governor is not a bad person as portrayed by some people in the media, he has done a lot for us and we appreciate him.”

“He assured of teachers returning to their classroom as soon as possible.

“We had a fruitful meeting and we discussed issues concerning the teachers and how to move our state forward.”

Those present at the meeting, included Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Mike Okeme, select local government Chairman top members of the NUT, among others.
