Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agyole Abe, has warned protesters to stay off the state.
This warning came following the planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Kaduna State chapter to express solidarity with the over 20,000 teachers recently sacked by the state government. He noted that the ban on any form of public procession was still in force in the state while addressing newsmen in Kaduna Wednesday.
Mr. Abe warned that anyone or group intending to carry our any public protest or procession should in the interest of the public shelve such plan as the Nigeria Police Force would not standby idly and watch the peace enjoyed b y the citizen of the state truncated.
He added that it was in the interest of the good people of Kaduna State to note that those who might be contemplating to come to Kaduna to foment trouble are strictly advised to stay away from the state as the command is prepared to deal decisively with any such person or group.
The Commissioner of Police, who said the Command only received a letter in respect of the protest late afternoon and considered the short notice given by the organizers of the protest that the Command cannot guarantee that miscreants would not hijack the protest, thereby plunging the state into another problem.
“We wish to also remind you that the last incident relating the same issue of teachers where the organize labour union staged what was supposed to be a peaceful protest turned out to be a near breach of the public peace in the state which resulted to chaos and destruction of some properties of government especially at the State House of Assembly.
“It is therefore advised that law abiding citizens should go about their lawful businesses without any hindrance as adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee their safety.
“The Kaduna State Command remains resolute in crime fighting and hereby issuing a stern warning against lawlessness, inciting disturbances, unlawful assembly and any other action capable of breaching the peace of the state shall be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
“The Command also advise law abiding citizens to be watchful and report any suspicious movement or activities that are likely to temper with the peaceful atmosphere of the environment in the police and other security agencies,” he advised.
