The commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) saddled with the responsibility of maintaining peace in Plateau and Bauchi States, Major General Rogers Nicholas on Wednesday warned troops under his command not to be involved in politics as it negates the core mandate of the military.
Nicholas gave the warning while addressing troops at Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to him, the visit to the area is aimed at foiling any anticipated attack that might occur between farmers and herdsmen especially now that the dry season is at hand.
“We are going round to sensitize people on the need to live peacefully with one another, because that is the only way meaningful development will thrive,” he said.
Nicholas said the tour is also an operational tour aimed at resolving issues. Responding, the Management Committee Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Hon. Luka Makut, said the efforts of the (OPSH) has brought peace, especially during the death of the first class Chief, Lazarus Agai.
He said continuous synergy with the taskforce will consolidate the peace that is already existing in Bokkos.
Makut also expressed optimism that the unyielding effort of the OPSH will eventually eradicate the remaining skirmishes of killings.
