The governorship candidates of 16 political parties in Taraba State have signed an undertaking to ensure violence free polls come March 28 and April 11, 2015.

Speaking at the signing ceremony that took place yesterday in Jalingo, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ademola Omole, said the signing of the peace pact became necessary following reported attacks and counter-attacks by political parties which resulted in the killing of two people in Suntai recently and the destruction of party posters and billboards across the state.

The CP tasked political parties to run issues-based campaigns devoid of religious and ethnic sentiments.

“I urge you to refrain from utterances capable of inciting violence before, during and after the elections”, he said.

Omole called on the candidates and institutions of government to adhere to the accord, stressing that INEC and the security agencies must act and be seen to be acting with impartiality.
