Taraba elections: Appeal Court takes final decision on APC guber candidate

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Taraba State, Sani Danladi, has been cleared to contest in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Appeal Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday upturned the disqualification of Danladi.

DAILY POST had reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, the state capital disqualified Danladi on charges of age falsification.

A copy of the order made available to newsmen late Thursday night, had the presiding judge, Justice Chidi Uwa, giving an interim order of injunction barring the plaintiffs in the case that disqualified Danladi and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC from taking further steps on the ruling of the lower court.

The appeal was filed by the governorship candidate of the APC, Sani Danladi and the All Progressive Congress, APC against Usman Udi, Joshua Paaku, George Geoffery, Tanko Muslim Munkaila and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The judgement in part reads that, “the parties are to maintain the status quo ante bellum and are to stay action and or steps towards the execution of the judgement of the federal high court delivered on 6/3/2019. “An interim order of injunction is hereby ordered, restraining the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respondents from taking any steps towards the execution of the said judgement.”

Counsel to the APC Barrister Chia Elijah, who briefed journalists after the ruling, said that it became pertinent for the judgement of the federal high court to be stayed pending the outcome of the appeal so that the candidate would not be denied the right to participate at the election.

Reacting to the appeal court order, the state APC chairman, Ibrahim El-Sudi hailed the appeal court for “allowing justice to prevail and urged the people to come out massively and ensure that they vote for the candidates of the APC on Saturday to herald a new era of positive change in the state.”
