Petroleum Tanker Drivers under the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, have threatened to embark on an industrial action if the Eleme Junction Road leading to the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State, is not worked on urgently. The Drivers have lamented the poor state of the road that has continued to frustrate their business activities.
Speaking in Lagos yesterday, National President of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, Mr Salimon Oladiti, further lamented that the road was a death trap and had caused the drivers plying it more pain than any one could imagine. He said some had suffered various degrees of injuries as a result of accidents caused by the poor state of the road.
He said that due to that particular portion of the road, many of its members now avoid that area and rush to Lagos from Port Harcourt to load products, stating that the influx of tankers in Lagos state was overstretching facilities in the state.
“Trucks fall on a daily basis and people are killed in the process and our members are also losing their trucks.” He said
