A tanker driver, identified as Wale Olaitan, on Saturday, lost his life in an accident involving a petrol tanker and four vehicles at Owode Junction in Ogun state.
The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Adegboyega Leye, who spoke with newsmen in Ota, confirmed the incident.
He said the accident occurred around 5.30am due to the carelessness of the tanker driver, confirming that one person (Olaitan) died on the spot, while six others, including four males and two females, sustained various degrees of injuries.
Leye said a loaded petrol tanker coming from Lagos and heading to Abeokuta, lost control and ran into four vehicles which went up in flames immediately.
According to him, the fire from the tanker spread to the neighbouring houses and property allegedly worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno.
”The corpse of the victim had since been deposited at the mortuary, Ifo General hospital, Ogun, while the six others were referred to Federal Medical Centre, Idl-Aba, Abeokuta, for an intensive treatment,” the Commander noted.
Speaking further, Leye appealed to the Federal, Lagos and Ogun state governments to overhaul the Owode road to prevent re-occurrence of such incidents in order to save lives and property.
