Tambuwal’s likely successor, Gbajabiamila dragged to court over election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Surulere Federal Constituency I, Mr. Tony Ashikodi, has dragged the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the National Assembly election tribunal in Lagos.

Ashikodi is insisting that Gbajabiamila was unduly returned and declared the winner in March 28 election by INEC.

In a petition filed at the tribunal, Ashikodi queried the return of Gbajabiamila by the commission on the grounds that the election was invalid by reason of non-compliance with the provision of the Electoral Act.

He further stated that the election was marred by irregularities and wanton violation of the provisions of the guidelines for the conduct of the 2015 elections.

“In clear contravention of the provisions of the Electoral Act and the INEC guidelines for the 2015 elections, the result was not collated by the officials of the second respondent, rather the collation officer was one Ajayi, a relative of Gbajabiamila,” the PDP candidate said.

“The results announced by INEC reflect pre-determined and fictitious manipulation forged by a rigging machinery of the APC, led by Gbajabiamila. We would never accept the results that were marred by irregularities and violence and call for a recount”, he added.
