Sustenance of marriage is in God’s hands – Amaechi advises couples

Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has called on married couples to trust for the sustenance of their marital union.

Governor Amaechi made this call today during the Ido-Nwa (traditional marriage) ceremony between former Miss Ataisi Secondus, daughter of the former National Organizing Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, and the Special Assistant to the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Sofiri Ezekiel-Hart, at Ikuru Town in Andoni Local Government Area of the State.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Charles Gogo Levi, at the event attended by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, his wife, Dr Mina Ikuru, Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Sir Orom Nte Ereforokuma, his vice, Hon. Sampson Egop, Director General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Director of Naval Intelligence, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ofiks, the Governor said “only God can keep a marriage”.

“Marriage is the only job that you are certificated for before you start. Your ability to keep that certificate is what matters and it is only God that can help you keep your marital vows, you must rely on God at all times,” Governor Amaechi stressed, noting, “the parents of the couple have shown good parental qualityby raising them to maturity. I am happy for them and thank God for today’s occasion”.

He advised the couple to remain close to God always and continue to love themselves, urging them to avoid tendencies that are inimical to their marriage, enjoining them to continue to appropriate His mercies to the betterment of their union.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and Okan-Ama of Ikuru Town, HRH King Aaron Ikuru, stated that “marriage is a mystery and institution ordained by God,” noting that “it is a union of body, soul and spirit,” pointing out that “it takes prayer and focus on God to sustain marriage,” urging the couple to “be in love, oneness, peace and be committed to one another,” adding that they should guard their marital life jealously.

Father of the bride, Prince Uche Secondus, commended the groom for finding love in his daughter, praising his courteous qualities, praying God to bless their marriage and sustain them in His love and grace.
