Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has called on Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP, to sustain good harmonious relationship between it and the Federal Government for the overall development of the educational section.
Malam Adamu made the call during the 2016 ASUP official capacity development workshop held in Kaduna, Tuesday, saying the industrial harmony was paramount to the development of any society.
The Minister represented by the Deputy Director Polytechnic, Federal Ministry of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Uba, said the union are partners in progress, adding that they should continue with their partnership with the government on itS current change agenda as it affect education sector in general.
He stressed that the government was committed to transforming the entire education sector.
He commended the union leadership for organizing the capacity building workshop which he said was timely and well conceived.
“Indeed, the workshop is timely and well conceived by the union’s national leaders to have it at this critical period, when manpower capacity building is greatly required.
“The ministry notes the happenings emanating from the union and appreciates the kind support and understanding of the sector to the government as well as to the ministry.
“These acts by the ASUP, clearly demonstrates the unions maturity, togetherness, love for the nation and the effort to move the polytechnic education sub sector forward,” he stated.
Similarly, the Executive Secretary of National Board for Technical Education NBTE, Dr. Masa’udu Kazaure, stressed the need for all unions in all the nation’s polytechnic campuses to key into the noble initiative and educate their members to ensure and sustain industrial peace on campuses.
He said the demands, accusations, counter accusations and the blame game or the extremities of strike should at all times be reviewed as it would do nobody any good to think of shutting down.
Earlier, National President of ASUP, Usman Dutse, said the aim of the workshop and the choice of its theme of “Administering Trade Unions in a Receding Economy,” was to put it heads together to discuss, synergize and develop a strategy on how to address some of its challenges which include non-payment of salaries to workers in most states and federal institutions.
