Controversy continues to trail the ongoing Good Governance Tour by the Labaran Maku’s led inspection team to different states, as a pressure group, the Bauchi Alliance for Good Governance, BAGG, on Wednesday urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe its activities.
BAGG further advised Maku to suspend what it described as a “jamboree of deceit”.
The group in a statement signed by its president, Chindo Abdulsalam, and made available to DailyPost accused Maku of trying to launder the image of President Goodluck Jonathan, whom it said has failed to fulfill most of his campaign promises to the people, especially to Bauchi State.
“Labaran Maku leads a team of 120 people claiming to inspect projects awarded by the Jonathan administration and such projects are not in existence in Bauchi State.”
“Bauchi has not benefitted from President’s Goodluck Jonathan’s administration; hence it will be a waste to spend the state’s scare resources on hosting the Good Governance Tour team.”
“We call on Governor Yuguda to borrow a leaf from his Edo State colleague and tell the team off,” the statement said.
The Tour, has visited states in North Central, South East and South South.
The Tour being led by Information Minister, Labaran Maku, has come under harsh criticism after Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole turned down a request by the team to fund its trip to the state.
Earlier, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno had openly expressed his reservation about the Tour, complaining of lack of federal presence in the state.
On his part, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos also described the Tour as a “waste of resources.”
In his reaction, Maku noted that all state governors had agreed to the Tour, accusing those elected under opposition parties of having “something to hide”.
