Suspects who killed UNIPORT lecturer remanded in prison

Three suspects have been remanded in prison by a Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday for alleged murder of a University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), lecturer, Dr. Eeba Lebari.

The suspects are the deceased’s gateman, Christopher Kinanee, Lebari Robert Tambari, and Ibrahim Useni (deceased housemaid) a Republic of Benin national.

The suspects were arraigned for conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.

The Chief Magistrate, Andrew Jaja, in his ruling, adjourned the case stating that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case, being a capital offence punishable with maximum sentence.

Magistrate Jaja also ordered that the original case file be duplicated and handed over to the registrar of the court, who will in turn forward same to the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.

The case was then adjourned till September 28.
